The two versions weren't as starkly different as I imagined they would be, between the darker version and the one with the lightening layer. More to the point, it didn't help the area I'd been trying to improve as much as it harmed another area. :-/That hasn't really happened before. Every paperback has been different. In the photos, the darker version is always on the right side. The mountain on the back is still hazy, the light flare is still doing its thing, though both are modestly improved in the darker version. But... Divigna's tattoos and the cityscape in the back on the front don't pop as much. That's bad. I showed the imagery around to some fresh eyes, and they all noted the harder-to-see tattoos. Okay, so that's unacceptable, the front is far more important, and the complexity of this particular cover means "It is what it is" and I wouldn't risk further mess-ups and more delays trying to get the best of both worlds. Really, making friends with the reality of printing versus the perfect reproduction in my head has been a process with every paperback. So, I have approved the LIGHTER version, the first one, as the paperback print. This is the better choice in this case (although that hasn't happened since Book 1). Many thanks to Eris Adderly for working with me on it! <3P.S. Because of that extreme-close-up for that spiked ball and chain, this cover wins the award for shortest, no-nonsense blurb so far! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: |

Eris painted most of the back based on multiple layers of licensed imagery. I love the high peak and breaking sunlight striking the spiked chain in the extreme foreground! |

Fun Factoid: The "continuing" image seen in the wraparound is not intended to be either a panorama shot or Manalar exactly as described in the book. Turns out nobody made a royalty-free image that even comes close to the weird mountainside city I have in my head (quelle surprise). What we've got here are two concept images blended together, utilizing the original landscape imagery with more ideas layered onto it, giving off the two thematic vibes in the book. It's also an homage to the cover of Book 3! I enjoy golden light breaking through restraints, apparently. There's even a third version of this concept (but different) yet to be revealed for Book 14. :eyes: |
