Why this petition matters
Started by Kara Moran
This is a heartfelt plea from a concerned parent whose best friend's daughter was brutally attacked in her high school at Red Mountain bathroom by a fellow student, while four others recorded the horrific incident. The young girl suffered not only physical injuries - a concussion, broken nose, and damage to the nerves at the back of her head - but also deep emotional trauma. The response from the school? A mere one-week suspension for the attacker and is now attending Skyline Highschool
This incident is not isolated. According to data from StopBullying.gov, about 20% of students aged 12-18 experience bullying nationwide each year. In Arizona alone, nearly 16% of students reported being bullied on school property (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). These statistics are alarming and call for immediate action.
We demand that schools in Mesa, AZ take immediate steps towards creating safer environments for our children. This includes implementing stronger anti-bullying policies with stricter penalties for offenders; providing regular training sessions for staff on how to identify and handle bullying; offering support services such as counseling for victims; and promoting an overall culture of respect within our schools.
Our children deserve better than fear when they go to learn each day. Please join us in demanding that Arizona schools take decisive action against bullying and violence now! SIGN and SHARE this petition today!
Arizona Cardinals ring in New Year with win over Philadelphia Eagles
SEE VIDEO
PHILADELPHIA — The Arizona Cardinals came into Sunday hoping to accomplish two things before ringing in the New Year. First, they wanted to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the season by beating one of the best teams in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Second, they wanted to get Head Coach Jonathan Gannon a win in his first game back in Philadelphia, where he spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator.
The Cardinals (4-12) were able to accomplish both as they overcame some early mistakes and beat the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5), 35-31.
As has been the case for the Cardinals in recent weeks, they started the game strong by forcing Philadelphia into a three-and-out.
The Cardinals then drove down the field to the Eagles' three-yard-line but were unable to punch the ball in for a touchdown, leading Arizona to grab a 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal from kicker Matt Prater.
Philadelphia would respond with a nine-play, 75-yard drive, which was capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to wide receiver Julio Jones to put the Eagles up 7-3.
Arizona's biggest mistake of the game came just more than a minute into the second quarter as there was an apparent miscommunication between Arizona Quarterback Kyler Murray and Wide Receiver Michael Wilson led to Murray throwing a lob pass directly to Philadelphia Safety Sydney Brown, who returned it 99 yards for an Eagles touchdown, which made the score 14-3.
Arizona followed the pick-six with their best drive of the first half, holding onto the ball for all but 1:50 of the second quarter. However, they were unable to get into the endzone once again and cut into Philadelphia's lead with a 34-yard field goal from Prater.
One minute and 50 seconds turned out to be just enough time for the Eagles to expand their lead as Hurts found Jones for their second touchdown connection of the first half with 16 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give Philadelphia a 21-6 lead at halftime.
The Cardinals' first touchdown of the afternoon came on their first drive of the third quarter when Murray found Running Back Michael Carter for a six-yard touchdown pass, cutting the Eagles' lead to just eight points — 21-13.
Arizona tied the game on their most spectacular play of the afternoon, as Murray avoided a sack and found Running Back James Conner, who made a one-handed grab for a touchdown with 2:01 remaining in the third quarter. Murray then found Wilson on the two-point conversion to tie the game at 21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Philadelphia grabbed the lead back with 9:55 remaining in the fourth quarter when Hurts showed just how dangerous he can be when extending plays by scrambling to the right and finding Tight End Dallas Goedert wide open in the endzone on a nine-yard touchdown pass. That made the score 28-21 Eagles.
The Cardinals tied the game back up at 28 with their third touchdown drive of the second half, this one ending with a five-yard touchdown pass from Murray to Wilson. This was Murray's first game with three touchdown passes since Oct. 30, 2022, when he threw three TDs against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Cardinals tried to be aggressive by attempting an onside kick after tying the game, but it was unsuccessful, giving Philadelphia great field position as they attempted to take the lead back. However, the Eagles' drive stalled leading to audible frustration from fans on the broadcast on FOX.
Eagles' kicker Jake Elliott gave Philadelphia the lead, 31-28, on a 43-yard field goal with 2:33 remaining, which gave the Cardinals an opportunity at a game-winning drive.
And Arizona took advantage, taking the lead on a two-yard touchdown run by Conner, to grab a 35-31 lead with 32 seconds remaining.
The Cardinals would hold on to grab their fourth, and arguably most important, win of the season.
Takeaways
It was always going to be tough for the Cardinals to come out of Philadelphia with a win. The Eagles, who ended a three-game losing streak by beating the New York Giants last week, are still one of the best teams in the NFC and will be in the playoffs.
But, the Cardinals showed once again that they will always play their hardest until the final whistle, and are coming back to the Valley with a win, as they showed they were the stronger team on Sunday, giving the team a huge confidence boost as they prepare for the final game of the season.
The Cardinals' rushing attack proved once again to be a major bright spot for the team as they rushed for 221 yards (189 from James Conner and Michael Carter). This is the third time the Cardinals have rushed for more than 200 yards this season and is the most rushing yards allowed by the Eagles this season.
Arizona's rush defense, which has been one of the worst in the NFL this season, also had a strong game, holding the Eagles to just 78 rushing yards.
Left tackle D.J. Humphries left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury and was replaced by Kelvin Beachum.
With Sunday's win over Philadelphia, the Cardinals now hold the No. 4 pick in the NFL Draft, according to Tankathon. Currently, the Carolina Panthers have clinched the No. 1 overall pick (but their pick belongs to the Chicago Bears), the Washington Commanders are holding onto the No. 2 pick and the New England Patriots have the No. 3 pick. The last time the Cardinals had the No. 4 pick was in 1972, when the team played in St. Louis. The Cardinals selected Oregon Running Back Ahmad Rashad with that pick. The order of picks 1-18 will be finalized next week.
The Cardinals also have Houston's first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That is currently pick 17.

The Cardinals wrap up their season next week when they host the Seattle Seahawks at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. The kickoff time has not been announced.

How the Arizona Cardinals reacted after beating the Philadelphia Eagles
SEE VIDEO
PHILADELPHIA — The Arizona Cardinals' penultimate game of the season turned out to be one of their biggest wins of the season as they moved to 4-12 after upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles, 35-31.
The first half of the game was dominated by Philadelphia as the Eagles went into halftime up 21-6. But Arizona Head Coach Jonathan Gannon said the energy and focus in the locker room was good and his team never felt that they were out of the game.
"I was really proud of them down 21-6 vs. a good team," Gannon said. "You could lay down there and get beat by 30, our guys did not do that, so, really just happy for the guys, how they responded all week, and a good win on the road vs. a good football team."
Part of the reason for the Cardinals' victory was the play of Quarterback Kyler Murray. He finished the game 25/31 for 232 yards and three touchdowns. It was the first time Murray had thrown three touchdowns in a game since Oct. 30, 2022.
Murray was nearly perfect in the second half, completing 13 of his 14 passes for 133 yards and all three of his touchdowns, leading the Cardinals to touchdowns on all four of their possessions and even completing a two-point conversion. His teammates and head coach had nothing but praise after the game.
"The guy, like, he’s a monster. He’s awesome," Tight End Trey McBride said. "I’ve got a lot of respect for him, he’s a heck of a player. He played really well today and I’m happy for him, I’m happy for everybody, this was just a full team win and I’m just fired up for all these guys."
"He was just operating," Running Back James Conner said. "He was operating well and just marching us downfield. We had a lot of long-play drives and he was just dicing back there, getting us lined up, getting us organized and just making it shake for us. And so, (we) needed him today. Big win for us."
"He was phenomenal," Wide Receiver Michael Wilson said. "I feel like that’s the Kyler that we all love and know. And I’m so happy that he was able to showcase that and just play with that type of poise and consistency, that charisma in the pocket, you know, commanding and leading the team. It was a joy to be a part of and play and be a part of his legacy."
"He was lights out," Gannon said. "I told those guys, it’s a really tough place to play. It’s a great place to play, the environment’s legit. It’s an unbelievable sports city, you know what I mean, but I thought he made plays. He hung in there, he made plays with his legs, he was accurate, he found the open people, got us in the right stuff. I didn’t have to take any timeouts with delays. That’s always a thing when it’s loud on the road. I thought he was lights out today."

One of the highlights for the Cardinals was their rushing attack, which finished with 221 yards. James Conner had his best game of the season, rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown, along with a five-yard one-handed touchdown grab in the fourth quarter. Conner said their success running the ball was "a total team effort."
"The receivers and tight ends, they were blocking downfield well but also making plays to keep the chains moving," Conner said. "And then our offensive line, they showed up all day. They were setting the tone throughout the week of practice and they carried over today. And so, you can’t go for a yard without them and so they really came to play today and it was a successful game on the ground and through the air."
The Cardinals won the game after Murray led the team on a game-winning seven-play, 70-yard drive, which was capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Conner with just 32 seconds remaining. Gannon had a simple message for his offense before the drive.
"Go win the game," Gannon said. "They knew they were going to get the ball back and have to score to win or tie the game. And I felt really good after the two-minute (warning) there. To look in (Murray’s) eye, I got on the headset and said 'Guys, we’re going to win the game.' I could see it in his face. So, and that’s what he did."
This game also meant a lot to the team as it was their head coach's first game against his former team since being hired in February. And the players were clear after the game. They wanted to win this one for Gannon.
"I know he wanted to win it really badly," Murray said. "I know the guys felt that energy from him and we wanted to come out here and do it for him."
"I think this was a big one. Obviously, you know, a former team, you probably had a lot to prove," McBride said. "And for him, I’m sure it meant the world to beat his former team and things like that. But it’s more about just the way we played, it was awesome, we played really well, it was a team effort and that was a lot of fun."
"It was nice, man," Conner said. "We wanted to do it for (Gannon). (I've) got all the respect for him, he just keeps us together, keeps the message the same and it’s always nice to come back, come back where he came from and get a victory."
Gannon, however, had a different take on his return to the City of Brotherly Love, where he spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Eagles.
"It’s just another (game)," Gannon said.
Arizona's first-year head coach added that he is very thankful for his time in Philadelphia.
"We touched down Friday night and I’m not nostalgic, but this place was awesome for me," Gannon said. "Working for (Philadelphia Head Coach) Nick (Sirianni) and the Philadelphia Eagles, you guys know, like, I loved it here. And that’s the reason that I’m sitting at the podium right now. That’s a huge reason, that organization and (Eagles owner) Mr. (Jeffrey) Lurie and (Eagles Executive Vice President) Howie (Roseman) and Nick."
The Cardinals have just one game remaining this season. They'll host the Seattle Seahawks next week, but the date and time of the game have yet to be announced. But getting a win over the Eagles in Week 17 was a big confidence builder for the organization.
"I think obviously it’s huge just to get a win, close out the new year, man, this is awesome, this is fun," McBride said. "Obviously, we’ve got one more game at home vs. Seattle, but yeah, just to get a win like this against a really good football team, a team going to the playoffs, it just kind of gives you hope, kind of gives you momentum going into the offseason that you can build on and come back next year stronger."
