PHOENIX — Isaiah Simmons’ time in Arizona is over. The Arizona Cardinals are trading the former first-round pick to the New York Giants, the team said Thursday morning.
A 2024 seventh-round pick is reportedly headed back to the Cardinals in exchange for Simmons, the Cardinals announced.
This has been talked about for weeks behind the scenes. Those of us around the team daily knew this was coming. Simmons was not going to be apart of the team’s long term future and didn’t play well this preseason. Cardinals were obviously disappointed in Simmons’ performance and effort, especially against the Chiefs.
Head Coach Jonathan Gannon addressed the media in Minnesota Thursday morning.
"We're always going to make decisions predicated on what we think is best for the team," Gannon said. "We wish Isaiah well, but thought that was the best move for us as we sit here today.
Gannon went on to say he didn't believe the trade was about Isaiah, but rather the direction of the team.
"He did everything that we asked him to do," Gannon proclaimed. "Moving forward we think this is the best way how we wanna play football against other people."
Cardinals General Manager Monti Ossenfort also talked about the trade listen to what he had to say in the video below.
Simmons was drafted by the Cardinals with the eighth-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was one of the best athletes coming out of college, but he struggled to find a position in Arizona.
This new regime has ZERO issue moving on from the past regime’s failures. Keep that in mind.
Simmons switched positions multiple times during the past three seasons in the desert. Going into year four, the team declined his fifth-year contract option, making him a free agent after this season. They also switched him to play safety, something Simmons asked for in the offseason and said was more of his natural position.
The Cardinals used Simmons at linebacker, safety and corner at times but the former Clemson standout couldn't find a main role to play.
Before being traded, Simmons was preparing to start the season at safety after the new coaching staff in Arizona decided how to best utilize his abilities.
In 50 career games, Simmons has 181 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 7 forced fumbles, according to Pro Football Reference.
Get your popcorn ready! Simmons will get to see his former team in Week 2 when the Giants play the Cardinals in Arizona.
Lineman Josh Jones also on the move
In a separate move Thursday, the Cardinals announced they also traded offensive lineman Josh Jones and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Houston Texas for the Texans fifth-round pick in 2024.

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) - Phoenix police say a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Glendale on Saturday night.
Around 6:30 p.m., police say 26-year-old Robert Crockett got into a rideshare vehicle and was heading to a neighborhood near 85th Avenue and Indian School Road. However, he then held the driver at gunpoint and stole the car. Crockett took off and began driving to Glendale.
Phoenix Police tracked the stolen vehicle to a home near 91st and Glendale Avenues, just east of the Westgate Entertainment District. A woman came out of the home and told officers the suspect was inside by himself, investigators said. Crockett then reportedly walked out and pulled out a gun, pointing it at multiple officers. Three Phoenix officers shot him. Police say there was a strong smell of gas coming from the home, and emergency crews had to put on gas masks to get inside. Crockett was then pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say officers located the suspect in a neighborhood near 91st and Glendale Avenues(Arizona's Family)
No Glendale officers were involved in the shooting, and no officers from either agency were hurt. Investigators say Crockett didn’t appear to fire any shots at police, but the investigation is ongoing.
This is the 45th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 60th in the state this year.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5/AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks had a historic inning with four solo home runs on Wednesday and they swept the 100-win Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series with a 4-2 win in Game 3. The D-backs return to the NL Championship Series for the first time since 2007, where they’ll face either the Phillies or Braves.
The D-backs rewrote history in the third inning. Geraldo Perdomo got it going with a homer to deep center. After Corbin Carroll grounded out, Ketel Marte crushed a pitch 433 feet for a homer. Following another out, Christian Walker blasted a home run to deep left. Gabriel Moreno thought he had the Snake’s fourth home run to right field but it was later ruled foul. On the very next pitch, he crushed it for a 438-foot home run, giving the D-backs a four-run lead. Veteran righty Lance Lynn gave up all four homers for the Dodgers.
The bats came alive for the NL West champion Dodgers in the seventh. After a couple of singles, Chris Taylor got his own single to left, and drove in Max Muncy with two outs, making it 4-1. Next up, Kiké Hernández got his own RBI single to cut it 4-2. Andrew Saalfrank relieved Ryan Thompson and got the final out of the inning. Thompson had pitched five scoreless innings before giving up those two runs in the seventh. But it wasn’t enough, as the offense went mostly silent in the final two innings.
Arizona — the No. 6 seed after squeezing into the NL playoff bracket with an 84-78 record — has won all five of its games during the postseason, sweeping aside both the Brewers in a best-of-three series and the Dodgers in a best-of-five.
Lynn cruised through the first two innings of a scoreless game — giving no indication what was about to come. Perdomo started the scoring with a leadoff homer, his first long ball since Aug. 13. One out later, Marte hit a 428-foot drive to right on a 1-0 cutter. With two outs, Walker pulled a 3-1 cutter to left for a 3-0 lead, drawing another roar from the Chase Field crowd.
Then came No. 4: Moreno sliced a 2-1 fastball down the line to the opposite field that right field umpire Gabe Morales called fair. But the umpires huddled and crew chief Todd Tichenor reversed the call to foul, a decision upheld by a video review. Moreno then drove Lynn’s very next pitch — a hanging slider — 420 feet over the left-field wall, flipping his bat high in the air as he started his trot.
A few moments later, a dejected Lynn handed the ball to manager Dave Roberts and trudged toward the dugout. Lynn gave up 44 homers in the regular season, the most in the majors. The previous mark of three homers in a postseason inning had been accomplished 12 times, most recently by the Dodgers against Atlanta in 2020.
D-backs rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.
While the D-backs thrived, the Dodgers had no answers for a third straight game. A stacked lineup with a pair of former MVPs — Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman — couldn’t make much of an impact throughout the series. Both All-Stars struck out in the eighth against Kevin Ginkel with a runner on first. Betts finished the series 0 for 11 while Freeman was 1 for 10.
EMOTIONAL FIRST PITCH
The four sons of Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen threw out the ceremonial first pitch in honor of their mom Nicole Hazen, who died from brain cancer in 2022. Hazen’s four sons are Charlie (17), John (16), Teddy (15) and Sam (13). Nicole Hazen was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2020 and fought the disease for more than two years. She was 45 when she died.
ROOF OPEN
It was the first playoff game at Chase Field since 2017 and the stadium’s retractable roof was open. The temperature was in the high 80s at first pitch. It was a sellout crowd of 48,175.

Eventually, on Oct. 9, Chandler police located, followed and arrested Panchal and Shaikh in Buckeye. The two have been booked on felony charges of theft, fraud and assisting a criminal syndicate.

Gilbert teen found in Alaska after reportedly being taken by doomsday family

GILBERT, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — The search for a missing 16-year-old Gilbert boy is over, as he was found thousands of miles away. The Gilbert Police Department said on Friday night, Blaze Thibaudeau was located safely at the Alcan Port of Entry along the eastern Alaska border. He was with his mother, Spring Thibaudeau, who doesn’t have custody of him, his uncle Brook Hale and his sister Abigail Thibaudeau, who also goes by Abi. Spring Thibaudeau and Hale had warrants out for their arrests in connection to the disappearance, and Alaska State Troopers arrested them. It’s unclear when they will be extradited to Arizona.
It all started when Blaze Thibaudeau went missing around 5 p.m. on Monday, reportedly taken by his mother and uncle. Authorities believed he was also traveling with his older sister. On Friday evening, Spring Thibaudeau and Hale were charged with custodial interference and conspiracy to commit custodial interference in Arizona. Both were issued state warrants for their arrest. Abigal was not charged. Police believed the group had gone to Idaho and then Canada.
The teen’s father, Ben Thibaudeau, told East Idaho News that his wife, daughter and brother-in-law see Blaze as a “Davidic servant who plays a significant role in the Savior’s return.” He said Spring became interested in end-of-days religious topics in 2015 while the couple attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that she gradually became obsessed with authors who wrote about doomsday and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
Ben Thibaudeau claims Spring Thibaudeau and Abigail Thibaudeau recently bought thousands of dollars worth of survival gear and flew to Boise, Idaho, on Monday, “where he (Blaze) would receive his calling and understand his role in the Second Coming.” He says there has been no communication with any of them since they left Arizona.
According to East Idaho News, Braydon Snarr and Abi got married in June 2021, and he says Abi and Brook tried to convince him to go with them, even buying him a plane ticket to Boise. Braydon told East Idaho News Abi told him to come home from work Monday morning because she needed to go to the hospital, but when he got to their Gilbert apartment, he was shocked to find her frantically packing and talking about the second coming.
“Deep down inside of me, I knew that this couldn’t be, that the world is going to continue to keep spinning,” he said. Braydon said it’s been an emotional roller coaster since he let her go. He read one of the last texts from Abi to East Idaho News. “She said, ‘I love you. We will be back in a few years, and if you’re still around I’ll come find you,’” he said.

Wrong-way driver dead after crashing into tour bus on Loop 101 in Peoria

PEORIA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — The Arizona Department of Public Safety had blocked the northbound lanes of Loop 101 in Peoria starting at Thunderbird Road after a deadly wrong-way crash. As of 7:45 a.m., some of the lanes have opened up.
DPS troopers tell Arizona’s Family that officers received a report around 3:45 a.m. of a wrong-way driver headed southbound in the northbound lanes of the Loop 101 between Thunderbird Road and Bell Road. Within 2 minutes, a head-on crash was reported between a Chevy Silverado and a band tour bus hauling a trailer. Arizona’s Family has learned the bus carried members of the band Piano Men: Generations who perform in Billy Joel and Elton John tribute concerts.
Authorities say the wrong-way driver had serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died. Meanwhile, two people on board the bus were rushed to the hospital with moderate and minor injuries while five others were treated on scene. Detectives are now working to learn more about what led up to the crash but say the impairment appears to be a factor in the wreck.

Tribal police officer arrested in deadly hit-and-run in eastern Arizona
PINETOP-LAKESIDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A tribal police officer in eastern Arizona has been arrested after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian on Thanksgiving, then left the scene. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office confirms that Josh Anderson, now a former officer of the White Mountain Apache Police Dept., is facing charges in the hit-and-run death of 30-year-old Iris Billy.
The deadly collision happened at about 3:30 a.m. last Thursday, Nov. 23, on State Route 73 at milepost 355 near Pinetop-Lakeside. That’s about 2.5 miles south of the Hon-Dah Casino on the Fort Apache Reservation. In a Facebook post a few hours after the crash, police said the unknown vehicle fled the scene and had not been located. In a follow-up message that was posted on Friday night, the department announced that an arrest had been made but provided no other details. Both posts have since been deleted.
During the investigation, police later found that Anderson’s patrol vehicle had damage that was “consistent with a collision with a pedestrian.” On Monday, the NCSO confirmed that Anderson, 49, was arrested at his home in Whiteriver on Friday night. In addition, the sheriff’s office said that Anderson was on duty when the crash occurred and had also responded to the scene and made next-of-kin notifications to Billy’s family.
Following his arrest, Anderson was booked into the White Mountain Apache Adult Detention Facility on multiple tribal charges, including assault, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, criminal negligence, reckless driving, interference with an officer, death caused by a vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatality collision.
The sheriff’s office said Anderson, who was a 20-year veteran of the department who’s well-known across the reservation, resigned immediately following his arrest. The case has now been turned over to the FBI, which will eventually turn its findings into the U.S. Attorney’s Office for review.
“This is an extremely sad time for the family of the victim, the men and women at the White Mountain Apache Police Department, and the White Mountain Apache Tribe. This event is an isolated incident and is not a reflection of the fine police officers that serve and protect the citizens of the White Mountain Apache Reservation every day,” the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “The White Mountain Apache Police Department acted in a swift, transparent, and aggressive manner to find the facts and document the incident. Their professionalism and vigilance throughout the investigation resulted in the ability to gather evidence and facts surrounding the death of Iris Billy.”

Police: Ex-security guard had sex with corpse inside Phoenix hospital morgue
SEE VIDEO
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A now-former Banner Health security guard is accused of having sex with a woman’s corpse last month at a Phoenix hospital. Officials confirmed that 46-year-old Randall Bird was arrested on Tuesday.
On Oct. 24, Phoenix police were called to Banner University Medical Center Phoenix to investigate the crimes. Investigators say Bird worked as a security guard for the hospital. According to police, security guards are in charge of transporting dead bodies to the morgue and placing them inside a freezer. However, guards aren’t supposed to open the body bags; they only place them on the freezer shelves.
Bird was arrested and booked into jail on several charges.(Maricopa County Sheriff's Office)
Video surveillance showed the 79-year-old victim’s body arrived at the morgue on Oct. 22, when Bird was in charge of transporting her to the morgue, police said. Court documents say two witnesses arrived at the morgue but found the doors locked from the inside, which was unusual. A light could be seen on the inside of the freezer, and the freezer door was cracked open.
The two witnesses reportedly saw Bird inside the freezer, where he was “sweating profusely” and “acting very nervous.” Court paperwork states Bird had removed his duty belt, his zipper was open, and his uniform looked “messy.” Investigators say the victim’s body bag was unzipped, and she was facing down. Bird’s belt was also on top of the gurney, where the victim’s body was.
Authorities say as the witnesses walked into the morgue, Bird immediately tried covering the victim’s body. He then claimed that he had a medical episode and fainted, and grabbed the victim’s body as he fell, court paperwork states. Bird told the witnesses the body bag then tore open, and the zipper broke, police said. However, the witnesses disputed this claim to police, saying the bag and zipper weren’t broken. The two then reported Bird to their supervisor.
On Oct. 25, police interviewed Bird, who claimed he had a medical episode and couldn’t remember what happened, investigators said. Crime scene investigators collected evidence from the victim and Bird, and his DNA was found on the victim.
He was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked on five counts of crimes against a dead person, a class 4 felony. In Arizona, those convicted of a class 4 felony often face between one to four years in prison for a first felony offense.
Officials confirmed Bird no longer works at the hospital. Banner Health released a statement to Arizona’s Family regarding Bird’s arrest:
We are saddened and appalled by the alleged actions of an individual at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix that resulted in his arrest on November 28, 2023.
Recently, Banner team members identified and reported concerning behavior of an employee in the hospital morgue. Banner initiated an internal investigation, filed a report with law enforcement and terminated the employee.
Banner Health has and remains committed to high standards that require each of our team members to treat everyone, at every stage of life, with compassion, dignity, and respect. We are grateful for the work of the Phoenix Police Department in the investigation and handling of this matter, and we will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.
Out of respect for the family, we will not further comment at this time.

Mom says newborn mistakenly tested positive for ecstasy at Phoenix Children’s Hospital
SEE VIDEO
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - “Maria” wants people to know what happened to her when she took her newborn baby to Phoenix Children’s Hospital a couple of weeks ago.
“I felt worthless,” said Maria. “I felt like a bad mom. I was starting to second guess myself on how I parent. What did I do wrong?” The distraught Phoenix mom claims her newborn baby girl accidentally fell off a bed on Nov. 14, and she rushed the child to the hospital to get checked out.
The newborn was O.K., then the mom says a doctor came in and told her the baby’s urine tested positive for the drug ecstasy. “There’s no way, no way that’s possible,” said Maria. “None of it made any sense. I was so confused. Was it the wrong urine? Did you walk into the wrong room and give me wrong news? I was then scared because then I knew that it was going to be a whole different ball game now that they’re saying my baby was positive for drugs.”
The case was immediately referred to Child Protective Services and the Phoenix Police Department. Maria, 28, insists she told the doctors, nurses, and social workers that she doesn’t do drugs, and neither does the child’s father, and there had to be a mistake.
“I wanted to make sure my baby was safe, and now they are going to yank her from me?” said Maria. “Now, I am going to sit in jail for something that is not possible, that I didn’t do.”
The mom said she spent more than 5 hours being interrogated, crying and pleading her case. Nearly 24 hours after arriving at Phoenix Children’s, a CPS investigator walked in and said there had been a mistake, according to Maria.
Apparently, another baby tested positive for ecstasy, and they discovered the problem. The mom was finally allowed to go home with her baby. “They just washed their hands of it because I was so ready to go home, and was happy I had my baby,” said Maria. “She wasn’t going anywhere and I wasn’t going to jail for something I didn’t do.”
“I want to know what went wrong in the lab,” said Maria. “I want to know went so wrong in that lab that I was in that nightmare for no reason, for no reason at all.”
Phoenix Children’s released this statement:

PHOENIX — Lori Vallow Daybell has been booked into a Maricopa County jail, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office records.
Vallow Daybell arrived in Maricopa County from Idaho overnight and was booked into jail on two first-degree murder charges early Thursday morning, officials say.
MCSO
Earlier this year, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs sent a request to have Daybell extradited to Arizona following her trial in Idaho.
Vallow Daybell was found guilty in May of killing her two youngest children, 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as conspiring to kill Tammy Daybell, her fifth husband's previous wife. Vallow Daybell was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.
After she was found guilty, she was indicted in Arizona for a second time, alleging she conspired to kill her niece's ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux.
She was previously indicted in Arizona in a separate felony case after a grand jury indicted her in 2021 on a charge of conspiring to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow.
Vallow Daybell made her initial appearance in front of a Maricopa County judge early Thursday morning. During the appearance, she inquired about how the two cases would be handled, how many attorneys would be appointed, and when she would be able to speak with them.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone said Thursday that while Vallow Daybell is in their custody, she will be kept in isolation because it is a high-profile case.
Her next court appearance is set to take place on Dec. 7.
