Food brands are always coming up with interesting new ideas to see how the public reacts to them. Sometimes it can lead to a huge success but other times it can lead to low sales and needing to go back to the drawing board. Check out these brands that tried something new but needed to go back and rebrand or disappear altogether, did you get to try one of these before they had to change things up?
Squeezits
Squeezits is a prime example of brands that have not stood the test of time. They were created in the late 80s and lasted for a couple of decades, then they disappeared. They were known for the twist-off top and soft plastic bottle.
This made it easy for kids and adults alike to drink them on the go with ease. Unfortunately, they did not last due partly to the fact you had to drink it all in one sitting because the tops were not resealable.
Kraft foods
Kraft foods have rebranded time and time again. They have changed the packaging of their products, as well as the names.
For example, Kraft food’s international brand needed a new look and a new name. Unfortunately, the name they decided on was inappropriate, so they had to change it again. Rebranding can be a tricky game sometimes, but a lucrative one too if you can get it right.
Dunkaroos
Dunkaroos were originally from the Betty Crocker line of food products. It was launched in the 90s. The delicious snack contained cookies and frosting, and the whole point was for the cookies were to be dunked in the frosting. At the height of their success in 1996 the company had a stroke of genius and put out a contest to find the new mascot for the snack packs.
They went from the cute and cuddly kangaroo to the Dunkin Devil. Sadly, the rebranding was not enough, and they were discontinued in 2012. However, 8 years later in 2020, the delicious snack packs made a comeback and they are back on the shelves.
Keebler Magic Middles
The Keebler Company is known for their delicious cookies, and the Keebler Company’s Magic Middles were no exception. Magic Middle cookies were released by the Keebler Company in 2001. They had a couple of different fillings including peanut butter and fudge.
[Photo Courtesy: Keebler Magic Middles / Instacart]
The yummy treats came in mini easy to eat size too. Magic Middles lasted 10 years before they were discontinued in 2011. Despite the revolting of fans everywhere on social media and other fan sites, the cookies have yet to come back to the shelves.
Nestle’s Wonka Bar
Ronald Dahl, a famous author, created the world of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Nestle brought the wonderful world of the chocolate factory to your living room with its line of candies and chocolate bars.
[Photo Courtesy: Nestle’s Wonka Bar / Kev's Snack Reviews]
The Wonka Bar was a chocolate treat that flew off the shelves for a while. People everywhere at the time wanted to taste the bar that made Charlie the luckiest boy on Earth. Unfortunately, due to poor sales, they were taken off the shelves for good.
Hostess
Hostess has a range of products with the famous cream filling we all know and love. The Hostess Company went through a rough period. In 2013 the company went through a major, much-needed rebranding after filing for bankruptcy.
People everywhere stormed the shelves thinking the beloved cupcakes and other tasty treats were no longer going to grace the shelves of stores anymore. They left stores for 8 months. Luckily, due to the hard work put into rebranding they came back to the shelves in recent years.
Aunt Jemima
When Aunt Jemima syrup hit the market in 1889, they took the market by storm. By 1915 they had become a household name. Over the years they have continued to grow and expand. In 2020 the Quaker Oats owned company decided that the African American image they have on the label and boxes of the products was no longer politically correct, and it was time for a change.
[Photo Courtesy: Aunt Jemima / Open Food Facts ]
Aunt Jemima plans on rebranding the company so that it can continue to appeal to consumers everywhere, and not continue to offend its culturally diverse range of customers.
Cinnamon Tic-Tacs
These tiny mints with a big punch have been the go-to breath freshener since its release in 1968. One of the many flavors they released was Cinnamon. Usually, it is a great move to introduce a new flavor for your product.
However, this time Tic-Tacs were unsuccessful in their quest for more consumers. The cinnamon-flavored mint treat packed a powerful punch, but sadly not too long after its release they were removed from shelves due to lack of sales.
Sun Chips Sweet and Spicy BBQ flavor
Since their release in 1991 Sun Chips have taken the potato chip market by storm. Around 2013 the beloved chip brand introduced their sweet and spicy BBQ flavored Sun Chip. They were a big hit in most places for a short period of time.
[Photo Courtesy: Sun Chips Sweet and Spicy BBQ flavor / Instacart]
When introducing a new flavor, it can be tricky when it comes to the popularity of the product. Soon after their release in 2013, the new flavor of Sun Chips was discontinued. However, you can still find regular BBQ flavored Sun Chips on the shelves, but not the sweet and spicy version of the potato chips people grew to love.
Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice
Uncle Ben’s rice has been in households everywhere for decades. The name and logo of the converted rice brand was appropriate for the time when it came out. However, there has been a shift in the political correctness of the name Uncle Ben.
[Photo Courtesy: Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice / Open Food Facts]
Companies like Mars Incorporated, the owners of Uncle Ben, have been rebranding many of their products that reflect negative racial stereotypes. Mars decided early in 2020 that Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice will now be known as Ben’s Original. Hopefully, with the name change, they can continue to grow as a brand.
Coke with Lime
Coca-Cola and its other drink products have been a part of households around the world since the late 1800s. In the early and mid-2000s, Coca-Cola introduced a whole slew of new flavors including lime.
[Photo Courtesy: Coke with Lime / wikimediacommons.com ]
While the lime-flavored Coke beverage was popular, it only lasted on the shelves for 2 years before it was discontinued, from 2005 to 2007. A diet version was later introduced, and they are still on some shelves today. However, the original version has not made a comeback to the stores, or at least not yet.
Altoids Sours
In the early 2000s, Altoids had already been on store shelves for decades. It was time for a change. Altoids Sours hit store shelves in 2004. They rapidly became a very popular version of the already popular Altoids brand.
[Photo Courtesy: Altoids Sours / Amazon]
Altoids sours came in several different fruity flavors like tangerine flavor. Sadly, the popularity of the new flavor that hit the shelves was short-lived. In 2010, unfortunately for them, the Altoids brand decided to discontinue the sour, fruit-flavored version of the brand.
Hershey’s Bites
In the early 2000s, Hershey’s introduced their Hershey’s Bites treats to the world. They hit the shelves and just as fast flew off of them because of their instant popularity. However, their popularity was not very long-lived. It was on the shelves of stores for only a few years before being discontinued in 2006.
[Photo Courtesy: Hershey’s Bites / Instacart]
People everywhere are still asking if one day the delicious treats will be put back onto the shelves. Unfortunately, it does not seem as though Hershey’s Chocolate is in any rush to put the delicious treats back onto the shelves of stores everywhere.
Wild Cherry Jell-O
The Jell-O brand has been around for a long time. When it was released in the early 1990s Wild Cherry was not as popular as the other Jell-O brand flavors that came out before and after it, but it was popular, nonetheless.
[Photo Courtesy: Wild Cherry Jell-O / Mid Century Menu]
Despite its popularity, however, the Jell-O brand decided to discontinue the wild cherry flavor shortly after. When you have been around for as long as Jell-O has, occasionally, you must get rid of the old to let in the new, and that is what they did with Wild Cherry Jell-O flavor.
Flavor-Blasted Graham Goldfish
Goldfish have always been a favorite when it comes to cheese and crackers. The beloved food brand felt it was necessary to make other flavors and that is when Flavor-blasted Graham goldfish. Instead of the traditional cheese flavored cracker, they decided they would try to make Graham Crackers obsolete with their graham cracker flavored line of cracker snacks.
[Photo Courtesy: Tami Dunn / YouTube]
With flavors like s’mores, the Flavor-blasted Graham Goldfish made a big splash in the snack pool. Unfortunately, they were not as popular as the brand thought they would be and they quietly disappeared from the shelves.
Keebler Munch ‘Ems
The Keebler elves have done it again. They combined the texture of a chip and the flavor of their snack crackers and Munch ‘Ems were born. The very popular crackers were a major thing in the late 90s and some of the early 2000s.
[Photo Courtesy: Keebler Munch ‘Ems / Pinterest ]
The Keebler Company’s idea of a mash-up of crackers that crunch like chips, lasted a little while before they were silently discontinued in the early 2000s. They went from being a big presence in the snack world to disappearing off the shelves never to return.
Land O’Lakes Butter
Land O’Lakes Butter is iconic for the Native American woman on the packaging and has been on the refrigerated shelves of stores everywhere. The image has not caused any problems, but the company does understand that times are changing.
Now that times have changed Land O’Lakes Butter wants to change with the times and become politically correct. The rebranding of the company at the end of 2020 is a big bold move for the company.
Ancient Harvest Pasta
Ancient Harvest is a health-based company that began in the early 80s. Ancient Harvest has been popular over the years with vegans, vegetarians, and special dieters across the world. After decades of the same, the packaging in their opinion was not attracting the customers that they wanted so they went in a different direction, changing the logo and the packaging.
[Photo Courtesy: Ancient Harvest Pastas / Walmart]
This rebranding is strategic in attracting the attention of a different consumer base. Hopefully, it works to their advantage and not their disadvantage.
Ayoba-Yo Droewors
Ayoba-Yo is a premium meat product company. They have been making Biltong, beef sticks, and other dried meat products. They have been around for a short period of time, but they have made a nice splash in the marketplace.
[Photo Courtesy: Ayoba-Yo Droewors / Amazon]
In 2020 they changed their entire packaging. Their products come in a variety of package sizes and with the new look, they are attracting customers from places they may not have before. Packaging can be an important form of marketing so this type of rebranding can be important to a brand's success or failure.
Kudos Granola Bars
Mars incorporated has come up with several different snacks over the years from chocolate candy to granola bars. Mars Incorporated’s Kudos granola bars from the 80s is a great example of a Mars snack that has gone extinct from the shelves.
[Photo Courtesy: Kudos Granola Bars / Mashed]
When the Kudos Bars were originally launched in 1986, they came in three varieties including, nutty fudge, chocolate chip, and peanut butter. These tasty snacks survived for a decade. Unfortunately, in 2017 the delicious granola bar was discontinued. It seems that Mars Incorporated has no plans on reviving the snack products.
Tropicana Orange Juice
Tropicana is known for the orange with the straw sticking out of it that has been on the front of Tropicana cartons and bottles for decades now. The popular orange juice company in 2020 decided to change their banding and released Tropicana Orange Juice with a new look.
[Photo Courtesy: Tropicana Orange Juice / Open Food Facts]
They replaced the orange and straw with a wine glass with orange juice filled to the top. However, after time passed and money was lost, Tropicana reversed its decision and went back to the orange we all know and love. However, the damage may have been done and their sales haven't been the same.
Vegemite Concentrated Yeast Extract
Vegemite Concentrate Yeast Extract by Kraft Foods went through a major rebranding in 2009. It held a contest that allowed customers of the yeast product to give suggestions for a new name. The customers agreed to name the product iSnack 2.0. Unfortunately, it did not hit as hard as Kraft expected.
The name did not have anything to do with the product. Within 5 days, Kraft foods decided to change iSnack 2.0 back to Vegemite. I guess the customer is not always right.
Dannon Sprinkl’ins Yogurt
Yogurt has been around for what seems like forever. Dannon has been in the yogurt business for decades, and they have usually found a way to make healthy snacks fun to eat. Dannon Sprinkl’ins Yogurt is an example of this.
[Photo Courtesy: Dannon Sprinkl’ins Yogurt / Pinterest]
The yogurt snack included delicious sprinkles to add to your yogurt. The new alternative to the traditional yogurt delight debuted in 1992 and lasted for a little while on shelves everywhere. Today you will not find the delicious treat on the shelves because Dannon discontinued the yogurt in the early 2000s.
Heinz EZ squirt
Heinz ketchup has been a household brand for a while now. Over the years they have made a bunch of improvements to the bottle to make it more kid-friendly and easier to use without making a mess. The Heinz EZ Squirt did just that.
[Photo Courtesy: Drunk Nostalgia / YouTube]
Heinz introduced a bottle with a kid-friendly nozzle, and the condiment that was traditionally red came in colors like green and purple. It was a kid-friendly alternative to the boring red tomato ketchup we were used to. Sadly, it was discontinued over time, slowly fading away from the shelves forever.
Hot Pocket Toaster Breakers
Hot Pockets Toaster Pizzas were introduced in the late 90s. They were made available in pepperoni pizza and ham and cheese flavor options. They were different than the traditional Hot Pockets we know and love today because they could fit in a regular toaster and cook in seconds that way.
[Photo Courtesy: Adrian Bush / YouTube]
They were the easy, microwave and oven free, treat of the decade. Unfortunately, soon after their launch Hot Pockets removed the tasty alternative from the shelves, never to be seen again.
SodaLicious Fruit Snacks
SodaLicious Fruit Snacks were soda bottle-shaped fruit snacks made by Betty Crocker. They had flavors like Red Punch, Lemon Lime, Grape, and even 7-up. They were made with real fruit and natural and artificial soda flavors like 7-up.
[Photo Courtesy: SodaLicious Fruit Snacks / Reddit]
They came in pouches with a random selection of the fruit-flavored bottle gummies. Over the year Betty Crocker has had other fruit snacks, but nothing like SodaLicious. Even though they were unique and nostalgic, they were discontinued shortly after their launch.
Philadelphia Cheesecake Bars
In the mid to late 1990s, Kraft introduced the widely popular Philadelphia Cheesecake Bars. When it came out it was introduced with four different flavors including, chocolate chip, strawberry, white chocolate raspberry, and classic.
[Photo Courtesy: Philadelphia Cheesecake Bars / Selectos Easy Shop]
They flew off the shelves in the beginning. The delicious cheesecake bars were discontinued by Kraft. Despite the major uproar made by fans of the cheesecake bars to put them back on shelves over the years on social media and other internet forums and websites, the bar has not returned to stores.
Frosted Chocolate Vanilla Crème Pop-Tarts
Pop-Tarts have been around since the 60s. The pastries were revolutionary because they were delicious and easy to make. The Frosted Chocolate Vanilla Crème flavor of Pop-Tart hit the pastry market by storm.
[Photo Courtesy: Frosted Chocolate Vanilla Crème Pop-Tarts / Twitter]
However, despite the popularity of the product, the Pop-Tart pastry was discontinued in 2009. Lucky for us in 2014 they made a small comeback as a limited-edition flavor for the anniversary of the Pop-Tart pastries, only to leave the shelves again. The Chocolate Vanilla Crème Pop-Tarts have not returned since then.
Hi-C Ecto Cooler
The flavor of Hi-C drinks came out at the same time as the cartoon “The Real Ghostbusters” in 1989. They came in cans and squeezable juice boxes. The drink stuck around for almost 10 years and disappeared around 1997 from the shelves.
[Photo Courtesy: Hi-C Ecto Cooler / Reddiit]
However, in 2016 when the remake of the old movie Ghostbusters came out, Hi-C relaunched the brand, I am sure it was to take advantage of the opportunity. Although do not call it a comeback because the release was only temporary.
Quaker Instant Oatmeal Sea Adventures
Quaker Oatmeal introduced a fun kid’s line of instant oatmeal that included dinosaur eggs that hatched into the food. The eggs were made of sugar and it turned your oatmeal a bright blue color when they dissolved.
[Photo Courtesy: Quaker Instant Oatmeal Sea Adventures / Pinterest]

The Waffle Crisps cereal made its debut in the early 2000s. The maple syrup flavored cereal became very popular as an early morning treat. The cereal offered a crunchy maple syrup taste with every spoonful that delighted the taste buds of people everywhere.
[Photo Courtesy: Waffle Crisp Cereal / Amazon]
Unfortunately, without the proper support, the retro favorite Waffle Crisps cereal was discontinued in 2018, and there are no plans at the moment to revive the brand, but people around the globe still hold hope.
Fruitopia
Fruitopia was a Coca-Cola brand beverage made with real fruits that came in flavors like Strawberry Passion Awareness. It was made to compete with the popular brand Snapple. However, the fruit drink made by Coca-Cola was not as popular as they anticipated.
After the end of the 90s decade, sales started to fail. By 2003 the Fruitopia by Coca-Cola was nonexistent in the United States and it gradually faded away off the shelves of stores everywhere before the end of the year.
Entenmann’s Butter Coffee Cake
There is nothing like a delicious coffee cake to go with your hot steaming cup of coffee in the morning. Although Entenmann’s has been around since 1898, the butter coffee cake made by them was not so lucky and ended up falling by the wayside in sales.
[Photo Courtesy: Entenmann’s Butter Coffee Cake / Amazon]
It was discontinued several years ago. Despite its popularity around the world, there is not enough popular support for them to consider revamping the brand and put it back on the shelves.
Fruit Loop Straws
The well-known cereal brand Fruit Loops decided to make a straw that was made of their cereal. Not only could you use the straws to drink your milk after a bowl of cereal, but also when just drinking a regular glass of milk with the straw, it changes the flavor of the milk.
[Photo Courtesy: Fruit Loop Straws / Twitter]
Although Fruit Loop Straws were largely popular, they were discontinued in 2009, but they made a brief reappearance on the shelves of stores in 2018, then faded away once more.
Full Throttle Coffee Energy Drink
Full Throttle Coffee Energy Drink came in several different delicious flavors including mocha, vanilla, and caramel flavors. The drink had a loyal fanbase during its time on the shelves.
[Photo Courtesy: Full Throttle Coffee Energy Drink / Instacart]
The Full Throttle Energy Drink could not compete with the big box energy drinks, such as Monster and Rockstar. The product spent several years on the market, but it slowly faded away off the shelves of stores. After a while, they were nonexistent and missed by those that used to drink them.
Starbursts Hard Candy
Starbursts has been a household name for decades now. They introduced the hard candy version of starburst a while ago. Starbursts candies have different sizes and consistency from Jellybeans to fruit chews.

Oreo Sippers
Milk’s favorite cookie has done it again. The iconic Oreo cookie came out with Oreo Sippers. Sippers were cookie straws made of the chocolate part of the iconic stuffed Oreo cookie. Oreo Sipper came out with a bang.
[Photo Courtesy: Oreo Sippers / Pinterest]

Trix Yogurt
Trix yogurt is a match for the stars. The combination of yogurt and Trix cereal really made a large impact on the yogurt world.
[Photo Courtesy: Trix Yogurt / Pinterest]

The yogurt hit the market in the early 90s. They lasted for about a decade, then in 2014, the tasty Trix Yogurt product was discontinued.
Oreo Cakesters
Oreo Cakesters were introduced to society in the 2000s. They were soft cake-like versions of the cookie sandwich we all know. Their texture resembled Twinkies or cupcakes from Hostess. They became popular for a little while. They were flying off the shelves when suddenly they were gone.
[Photo Courtesy: Oreo Cakesters / Pinterest]
They lasted maybe a decade before the shelves at the grocery stores around America no longer had Oreo Cakesters. Even though fans of the soft cake-like Oreo cookie everywhere revolted, there are no plans in the making for them to return to the shelves.
Strawberry Cheese Danish Pop-Tart
Everyone loves Pop-Tarts and their many different flavors from strawberry to birthday cake. In the late 90s early 2000s Pop-Tart came out with the Strawberry Cheese Danish Pop-Tart which featured streaks of strawberry flakes on cream cheese frosting.
[Photo Courtesy: Strawberry Cheese Danish Pop-Tart / Pinterest]
They were a delicious flavor of Pop-Tart treats. For a while, they flew off the shelves and into customer’s homes and stomachs. However, they seem to quickly and quietly fall to the wayside after not doing so well in sales, shortly after its release.
Ice Gatorade
Ice flavor Gatorade appeared in 2002 when Gatorade’s Ice Series rebranded. Athletes and athletic people everywhere would agree that Gatorade is one of the best ways to stay hydrated, and it also tastes good.
It seemed like they were on the right track with the strawberry flavored drink that they decided to add to the lineup. However, the entire "ice" flavors later had to be removed and rebranded. When they finally came back they had a whole new look and all-new flavors, catering more to an athletic audience than a beverage to drink during meals.
Haribo Sugar-Free Gummies
The gummy bears made a splash in the candy world creating a sugar-free flavor that still had a powerful taste that you get with every gummy bear. Unfortunately, the gummies had to be discontinued shortly after their arrival, because an ingredient inside of the gummy bears acted as a laxative.
[Photo Courtesy: Haribo Gummies / pixaby]
That meant that everyone who ate the gummies soon after would have extreme gastrointestinal distress. The company has since discontinued the sugar-free snack, and there's no hope of it coming back for good reason.
Banana Nut Cheerios
The short-lived flavor of Cheerios hit the shelves by storm in the early 2000s. The Cheerios brand over the years has had many different flavors come out from apples and cinnamon to the beloved honey nut, and the Banana Nut flavored Cheerios was a great addition to the family.

The pizza-flavored treat hit the shelves in 1968. They packed a great flavor that reminded the consumer of every reason why they love pizza. Pizza Spins by General Mills didn't last a very long time, but their brief span in snack history we will remember.
Despite its popularity when released the hype died down. Unfortunately, the pizza snack was discontinued in 1975. They have yet to come back to grace the shelves of stores everywhere and fulfill unsatisfied cravings for the delicious treat.
Hershey’s Swoops
The Hershey brand has been around for a really long time and they have had several different lines of snack treats come out and hit the shelves. Hershey’s Swoops chip-like treat was one of them.
[Photo Courtesy: Hershey’s Swoops / Daily Meal]
Unfortunately, their decision to turn the chocolate we know and love, into a Pringle shaped treat, was not the greatest idea on the part of Hershey’s, and the product was short-lived. The chocolate treat was discontinued in 2006. Hershey’s has made no plans for them to be back on the shelves since.
Jolly Rancher Wild Berry
Jolly Ranchers have been around for a really long time getting stuck in the teeth of children everywhere. One year the company decided to put out new flavors and one of them being wild berry. However, as delicious as they may have been, the tasty treat from Jolly Ranchers was discontinued in 2012.
