Bob Saget was one of America's favorite actors, most well known for his role as Danny Tanner in the hit television sitcom Full House. The country was saddened to learn about his passing in early 2022, but his memory lives on. Here, we will take a look at both the life and career of this beloved actor and comedian. Some of these points may even surprise you and teach you a few unknown facts about the television personality!
Younger Years
Bob Saget was born Robert Lane Saget on May 17th, 1956. He had many successes over the years and worked as a stand-up comedian, actor, and television host. One of his biggest roles, and arguably most famous, was his role as Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom, Full House. The show ran from 1987 to 1995. Additionally, Bob was the original host of America's Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997.

Bob was born into a Jewish family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During his early life and before the fame, he moved to Norfolk, Virginia, with his family where he briefly attended Lake Taylor High. Due to a lack of family members in the area, he had his bar mitzvah in Philadelphia when he turned 13. His family decided it would be best to return so he could celebrate this special day with his loved ones.
Start Of A Career
Bob's family briefly moved to the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he met Larry Fine of The Three Stooges, whom he heard various stories from. Some may say this was the first taste of Hollywood for Bob. After this, he and his family moved back to Philadelphia. Saget went through a lot of moving around during his younger years but eventually would find his way in Hollywood as an actor.

Originally, Bob Saget aimed to become a doctor. His father was a supermarket executive, and his mother was a hospital administrator. He did not come from a famous family, so perhaps his parents' careers had an impact on his early career goals. However, while attending Abington Senior High School after moving back to the East Coast, his Honors English teacher, Elaine Zimmerman, saw a lot of creative potential in him and encouraged him to take up a career in film.
Full House
Created by Jeff Franklin for ABC, Full House is an American television sitcom that quickly became a household favorite. Bob Saget had a leading role as Danny Tanner, a widowed father who is raising his three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos) and best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier).

The hit sitcom aired from September 22nd, 1987, to May 23rd, 1995, broadcasting eight seasons and 192 episodes. The series remained consistently in the Nielson Top 30 from 1988 and onward. Today, Full House is still airing reruns. One of the show's producers, Dennis Rinsler, called the show "The Brady Bunch of the 1990s". Many fans would probably agree!
Bob's Wife Kelly Rizzo
Kelly Rizzo was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 19th, 1979. She married Bob Saget in 2018 and they remained married until his death in 2022. Kelly is known for being a blogger, model, and renowned TV host. She gained the majority of her popularity after founding and hosting Eat, Travel, Rock, a blog that was later made into a web series featured on the website of The Food Channel.

While Kelly is mourning the death of her late husband, she has a lot of support. Bob's friends and family had a positive relationship with Kelly, and appear to be there for her during her difficult time. The photo above reflects the loving relationship the two had.
Television Friends And Real Life Friends
Bob Saget and John Stamos were known for their leading roles in Full House. The pair seemed to have worked together very well, and their friendship on-screen warmed the heart of many viewers. Off-screen, though, it appears that the pair always had a strong relationship. This is one of many photos we have found that features the two actors together.
Photo Courtesy: [Matt Winkelmeyer/Staff/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images]
There is a countless number of photos online featuring Bob Saget and John Stamos together. The two seem to have always posed together for photo ops at big events. Bob was known to be a likable and funny individual, so it is only natural that his on-screen friends translated to real-life friends!
The Scleroderma Research Foundation Benefit
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen both played the role of Michelle Tanner. The twins would take turns in this role, due to their young age at the time so each could have a break. Here, they are pictured with Bob at The Scleroderma Research Foundation Benefit, an organization that he strongly supported.
The Scleroderma Research Foundation Benefit has a mission statement featured on their website that says, "The mission of the Scleroderma Research Foundation (SRF) is to fund and facilitate the most promising, highest quality research aimed at improved therapies and, ultimately, a cure for scleroderma." Also currently on the homepage of their website, is a tribute to Bob. He was a board member of the foundation and according to the site, "A Dear Friend".
Using Stand Up For Good
Here, Bob can be seen performing at the Alliance for Children's Rights "Right to Laugh" fundraiser held at the Catalina Club on March 15th, 2010. The Alliance for Children's Rights aims to create a better life for children and is based in Los Angeles, California. The alliance advocates for those in foster care to make sure their rights are being protected. It is a great way to give a voice to those who may be scared to speak up.

Bob Saget was known for having a big heart and making his voice heard. It was very common to see him performing or speaking at such fundraisers and events. Other celebrities were said to be spotted at the Alliance for Children's Rights "Right to Laugh" fundraiser, so it seems that Bob, along with others, helped to get this important alliance a lot of attention.
A Stand Up Legend
Although much different from his image in Full House, Bob was known for his adult-oriented stand-up comedy. This type of comedy is also known as blue comedy, which is mainly off-color, risqué, indecent, or profane, largely about sex. At times, it can even shock or offend audience members.
While maybe it was a select audience who enjoyed Saget's stand-up style of choice, he had a lot of success with it. Bob went on tour often and always seemed to have a packed audience. He even wrote about his journey into stand-up, called Dirty Daddy, which we will take a look at a bit later on.
Celebrity Friends
Here, Bob Saget can be seen pictured with musician John Mayer. There are many photos of the pair circulating around, so it is safe to say they had a close relationship. In Hollywood, of course, it is common to see celebrities developing relationships, some closer than others. Even though the two had different career paths, they grew to be great friends.
Photo Courtesy: [Matt Winkelmeyer/Staff/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images]
It was reported that John Mayer took Bob's death pretty hard. Upon hearing the sad news, he was very shaken up. According to People.com, Mayer paid for a private plane to transport his body home to California. According to an unnamed source, Bob's friends are there 24/7 for his widow, Kelly Rizzo, and his family.
Rock Concerts
Bob was a music fan and was said to have liked Rock music. Being a celebrity, he naturally got to meet some of his favorite artists. Here, he is pictured with Kiss star, Gene Simmons. That's a pretty big deal!
Photo Courtesy: [Slaven Vlasic/Contributor/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images]
Bob Saget and Gene Simmons were two among many who arrived at the Hilton Hotel in New York City for the Friars Club Roast of Jack Black. Fellow comedians Amy Schumer and Jeff Ross also attended this large event.
A Devoted Actor
Bob Saget was of course known for his leading role as Danny Tanner on the hit sitcom, Full House. Below, he can be seen with his television family on the show. Shows throughout history have been known to have a lot of cast changes, leaving viewers frustrated. Broadcasting eight seasons and 192 episodes, Bob remained loyal to Full House and kept his role as Danny Tanner throughout the show's entirety.
Photo Courtesy: [ABC Photo Archives/Contributor/Disney General Entertainment Content/Getty Images]
Full House was a big win for Bob Saget's career. After gaining national recognition from the show, he went on to become a television host, known comedian and took up some other big roles in the entertainment industry. From there, he had a book deal and a DVD deal.

It was common for well-known celebrities to appear on the show. Countless big names have appeared, including Robert De Niro, Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, and Van Morrison on the pilot episode alone. In the photo above, Bob Saget, John Stamos, and Dave Coulier are seen on the show acting out a skit with Fallon. The show was known for comedy, making it only appropriate that the trio appeared as guests. After all, most would agree they worked great together!
Critical Condition
The same year that Full House aired, so did the movie Critical Condition. The photo below shows a scene from the movie featuring actors Bob Dishy, Richard Pryor, and Bob Saget. The three appear to be worried, so we can only imagine what was being discussed here! Although not everyone knew of Bob Saget yet, the movie was another accomplishment for the actor's career.

Of course, Danny Tanner had the support of friends and family to help raise his girls. The moral of the show was that with a little help and a lot of love, even untraditional families can feel like a home. Danny Tanner will always be known as "America's Dad".
Toys For Tots Benefit At The Laugh Factory
Toys for Tots is an organization run by the United States Marine Corps which distributes toys to parents who cannot afford to buy them for their children at Christmas time. Reservist Major Bill Hendricks founded the program in 1947 and began as a Los Angeles charitable effort. Hendricks was inspired to start the organization when his wife, Diane, attempted to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but could not find any organization to do so.
Photo Courtesy: [Michael S. Schwartz/Contributor/WireImage/Getty Images]
The Toys for Tots organization has hosted many benefits over the years, and a few were held at The Laugh Factory. Bob Saget was well known for his charitable contributions and generous donations, and here he can be seen performing at a Toys For Tots benefit. It seems that humor is always appreciated at events such as these, so Bob was the perfect attendee to have!
A Camera Lover
Bob Saget and John Stamos have been pictured together at countless events, premiers, dinners, etc. Usually, it is the job of the paparazzi to capture their moments, so that is why this photo deserves a laugh. Even when the other cameras were rolling, Bob had his own!
Although the two always had a camera on them, Bob decided to take a selfie with his co-worker and friend anyway. It is ironic, yet laughable at the same time. Bob was used to always being on camera and having the paparazzi trying to catch a quick shot of him, so what difference does one extra selfie make?
The Friars Foundation Annual Applause Award Gala Honoring Don Rickles
As we have mentioned, Bob Saget was known for attending charity and honorary events. Here, he can be seen at The Friars Foundation Annual Applause Award Gala Honoring Don Rickles. A Loving Marriage
Although Bob Saget and Kelly Rizzo were not married very long before his death, the two seemed to be happy and in love. With his tragic passing, Rizzo has started to speak out and answer some questions fans have been asking. It was reported that the actress took a few days to herself before speaking out about his death, we can assume to take the time she needed to mourn.
Since then, she has reportedly revealed his last texts and said she will remember him as a man who loved "endlessly". It was very apparent that Bob was an attentive and loving husband, and we can only assume he will live on in his wife's memory.

Untraditional Families
As times have modernized, there is no longer a "real" definition of what a family should look like. Full House was one of the first shows to prove this on national television. Until recent years, many would think of a mother, father, and children as your typical family. This is no longer the case, as a family now can be considered anyone who works together under the same roof to maintain a happy household.
Photo Courtesy: [ABC Photo Archives/Contributor/Disney General Entertainment Content/Getty Images]
Full House pushed the boundaries for what a normal family should look like. Danny Tanner may have been the glue that held the Full House family together, but he couldn't have done it without the help of a few trusted men. Some may argue that the show made the public more comfortable with non-traditional families and has since been more welcoming of families of all types. Whether the producers at the time realized it or not, Full House would have a positive impact for many years to come.

Dirty Daddy
Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy, was a book written by Bob Saget. For those who were fans of his raunchy stand-up comedy routines, this book was much anticipated. The book shows his darker side while also showcasing his humor. Bob has been quoted saying he believes "there's a time and a place for filth", and his book Dirty Daddy better explains that.
Photo Courtesy: [Michael N. Todaro/Contributor/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images]
It is no surprise that Bob decided to write his own book about himself and his humor. The opportunity was right, especially for those that craved to know more about the less family-friendly side of him. This 272-page book was published on April 8th, 2014, and can be found in most book stores and also on Amazon.

While we do not have the exact speech Bob read for John that day, we can only imagine his words were heartfelt and genuine.
Paparazzi
Like most celebrities, Bob was no exception to the paparazzi's work. Here, he can be seen in Los Angeles in a photo most likely taken by a paparazzi trying to get a good shot. While we do not have much context behind this photo, Bob appears to be in good spirits and enjoying himself.
Bob was known for being a nice guy behind the scenes, so it makes sense he was not angry when the paparazzi tried to sneak in a few photos. In Los Angeles, they are hard to avoid if you are in the spotlight. After all, without them, we wouldn't have these great candid photos of our favorite celebs!
A Family Man
We have mentioned Bob's daughters a few times during this read, as well as his work for the Scleroderma Research Foundation. Here, he is pictured with two of his three daughters at a benefit for the foundation. Family and charity work were two things Bob very much cared about, so it is great to see his daughters coming out with him for support.

Bringing The Humor
Bob Saget was perhaps one of the biggest supporters of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. While the foundation deals with some very serious issues, Bob felt that humor would be a lighthearted way to uplift their events. Here, he and Dana Delany attend Scleroderma Research Foundation's Cool Comedy.

The two are laughing together in front of a large crowd, perhaps during a stand-up performance or while hosting. The foundation has stated they are grateful for his significant contributions and the time he has taken to support them. This photo goes to show, Bob used comedy to his advantage to uplift the spirits of everyone he came in contact with.
Thanksgiving Eve Dinner in 2005
The Salvation Army is a protestant Christian church and charitable organization that reports a worldwide membership of over 1.7 million. Members include soldiers, officers, and adherents collectively known as Salvationists. The organization aims to meet the "physical and spiritual needs" of the hungry, destitute, and poor. They accept donations of clothing, food, and money, among many other things. The Salvation Army exists in 132 countries and runs charity shops, homeless shelters, shelters for those impacted by disasters, and brings humanitarian aid to developing countries.

The Salvation Army was yet another charity that Bob Saget supported. During The Salvation Army Southern California's Thanksgiving Eve Dinner, Bob posed with daughter Jenny, Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse. The event was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on November 23rd, 2005 in Los Angeles, California
Goofing Around
Bob Saget was always a jokester. After all, it is a little difficult to have a career in comedy and be serious all the time! During his roast on Comedy Central, he was seen messing around with actors Chelsea Field and Scott Bakula. Bob was never afraid to be himself even when the paparazzi were around, and in return, fans got to view these great candid photos.

Comedy Central's roasts were always unpredictable. Celebs would arrive not knowing the fate that awaited them and what type of jokes they would become the butt of. To prepare, no one takes themselves too seriously and many have been known to goof around on set and at the pre-show. Bob was definitely no stranger to this!
Good Guy Gone Wrong
An HBO special titled That Ain't Right is a one-hour stand-up comedy routine by Bob Saget. The special first aired in 2007. Here, Bob is seen on August 27th, 2007 at FYE on 6th Avenue and 52nd Street in New York City. He was conducting a DVD signing and a meet and greet for fans. Many waited in line in anticipation of getting to meet him in person and also walking away with a signed DVD.

When Bob could, he would often try to meet his fans and sign merchandise. The crowd may have been a little different at a meet and greet centered around Full House than it was at a signing for his adult stand-up routines, but hey, Bob was appealing to everyone!
A Pleasure To Be Around
Bob Saget and Tracy Morgan attended the 2017 Garden Of Laughs Comedy Benefit at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. This benefit was held on March 28th, 2017 in New York City. The two are shown hugging and we can assume they were happy to see each other!

Multiple stars have stated Bob Saget was a great person to work with and spend time with. It didn't matter someone's race, gender, or religion, Bob was always welcoming and friendly. The photos we have seen of him interacting with other big-name celebs back this point up.
