- Using the Search box on the right -------------->
can be frustrating. Its hit or miss that you'll find what you're looking for.
Using the "More Search Options" usually results in me staring at the "waiting for wgt.com" browser status followed by "Sorry, we were unable to find any results using your search terms. Please change your search terms and try again." all too often.
Or worse, after a very long wait "Resource not found".
If you are lucky to get multiple pages of results, seems like the search has to re-do the entire search to generate the next page.
A Better Way: Google has a feature to narrow its search to a specific web site.
Go to Google search and type in the words you want to search for then add site:wgt.com at the end. Like this:
Click on search. Google is fast!
There's the post I was looking for!
Great info Andyson. Thank you for that, more then likely we will save me a tonne of time searching for that post I know I saw weeks or even months ago.b0geybuster

And if you want to try 2 search engines at once with split screen try this.
Bingle.nu
It gives you both Google and Bing searches.

Build Your Own Course
andyson 6,415 Posts | Sun, Feb 7 2010 8:11 AM |
- A course editor was mentioned in another thread by Bimmerman50 which gave me this idea for a new feature. Instead of designing your own courses and uploading to WGT, which AvatarLee correctly pointed out in the other thread would not be feasible, I submit it would be feasible to build your own course using existing holes!
The Course Builder feature would allow you to create your own 9 or 18 hole routing using any hole, any existing tee, any existing pin location, from any existing course.
I'd see a click, drag and drop method to create your own course. A list of available par 3s, 4s and 5s per existing course. Click on one from KI, drag it to your new course scorecard, and drop it in hole #1 for example. Click on another from BPB, drag it to your new course scorecard and drop it in hole #2. And so on to complete your 9 or 18 hole course. Save it and give it an appropriate name. "Andyson's Aquatic Adventure" with only holes having water hazards could be one. "Faterson's Fantastic Fantasy" for another.
Par for 18 could be anything from 54 to 90! Create an executive style course with 16 par 3s and a couple of short par 4s (BPB #2 red tees and KI #3 red tees) for a par 56 course.
Play them only in practice mode of course. Make them available to the public after trying them out. Think of all the possibilities. User originated tournaments on their own courses? Could oppy come close to replicating Winged Foot using existing holes?? LOL
Since it takes WGT a long time to introduce new courses and pin locations the community is crying out for variety....we're bored. This feature provides plenty of variety, something else for the community to do, and lots (probably) to talk about on the forums. WGT could even allow players to rate your new course.
Second Idea along these lines: Build your own CTTH (I got dibs on the mulch behind KI #7)

Welcome to Wolf Creek and Tour Champion! And Introducing...WGTChampion:
It's with great pleasure that I get to announce that we have a new elite class called Hall of Fame. This classification will only be given to the best of the best in WGT.
We did not want to section Hall of Fame off from the rest of the world, so Hall of Fame players will still play in Tour Champion tier games. We are still defining exactly how we're going to start awarding Hall of Fame to players, but we will have all that sorted out when we start to move select players to Hall of Fame sometime in 2019.
Well done YOUNG46 & FMAGNETS CONGRATS .pdb1

Congrats to Young 46 for making the HOF tier. He was selected based on his elite play..But, like most Halls of Fame, other major factors are generally considered.
I was under the impression he was awarded hall of fame status because he won the WGT Live Series event.
In other words, whoever would have won that series would have been the first inductee to the Hall of Fame.
But maybe I'm misunderstanding.pdb1

I am sure there is quite a lot more to it . WGT Live Series event just being a major factor .
No one gets Hall Of Fame status for just one event .
Maybe WGTChampion will be kind enough to clarify some of the criteria they are using to base this Hall Of Fame tier on ?pdb1

Yeah.......I remember several years ago (while on Match.com)....some of the women would try to get me to "chat" with them on their Yahoo e-mail address. Well, I knew that was a SCAM........many were "Russian" marriage scams.....looking for $$$ from American men. I suspect......there are some scammers on here.....with over 4 million WGT members, there has to be a little bit of everything.......ha!
And, I think women who get on this site or any Internet site....just need to be careful...and be safe. And......men, here on WGT, need to not be so naive with respect to some of these female members.
I think this Forum section is really interesting.....I've learned a lot here....golfing tips, resolving problems with my game....there's just a TON of great information available in this Forum area.

Gorse and heather require management intervention or they become leggy and degenerate .As they compete for light ,gorse and heather will grow and cast shadow,s and hide the natural topography of the dunes .Gamekeeper,s will burn or cut by chainsaw leaving more bare sand .Stoat,s and weasel,s also f eed heavily on the course marking the ground by stripping the grass so all these put together maybe the cause of dark unexplained shapes and shadows .StrangeMagic

It's a simple matter to make a left-handed player but, according to an earlier thread, WGT hasn't any programmers that actually recognize that.bubbadork

This is not true. There's considerably more to putting a left handed player in the game than just turning the avatar around.

You're saying implementing left handed avatars is a simple, nearly trivial problem? So, how would you do it? Why is it so simple?bubbadork:

The image is a photograph with additional items (avatar sections, ball, divots, tees, etc.) overlaid. It's a common and well-defined process.
The position of the avatar at address and the nature of the terrain is already defined for the entire area around the ball. There's no reason that can't accommodate an avatar positioned in another spot. Except for the actual piece content, it's no different than providing opposing views as in putting.
Seriously, I am not being a smartass here, and I'm not speaking out of my nether regions. Stuff like this was a significant part of my (successful) career.

Note that the lefty (lower left) is not just a mirror image (lower right): he's been repositioned in relation to the ball.984 Posts Mon, Mar 11 2013 12:09 PM

I'm not saying there are no difficulties (we've all had our avatars standing in weird places), I'm saying there are no more difficulties than occur with right-handed avatars.

Simple mirror-image versions are not going to work in all cases. Avatars with logos for example the Lexus one:
Now the logo for the lefty is bassackwards! There's a few more including Ketel & GolfChannel NBC that would also need added artistic work. Perhaps even some of the country flag avatars would need added work also.
WGT also needs to do the work to mirror all the clubs. The images of clubs in the club selection area as well will need artist's work.
Have you considered the work to account for missed dings? If a righty misses late the ball goes to the right, if a lefty misses late the ball should go left. There's more work to be done in the guts of the game.
Potential work in uneven lies flipping sidehill lies. What's downhill to a righty is uphill to a lefty.
Potential work in future features "stance adjustment" and "fade/draw." (I got a inkling this stuff for rightys might already be somewhat implemented from early versions of the game.)
Looking at the game window with the mini-map on the right of the screen makes me wonder, based on the limited camera angles, if a lefty avatar is now much more likely to be hidden by the mini-map. Potential work to be done re-positioning the mini-map opposite the lefty avatar.
Are there performance impacts? I was in an AS game yesterday where 3 of the 4 players had the same avatar. That means less avatar files to download. With lefty avatars righty/lefty won't be able to share files. Will there more often be additional avatar files to download?
How about GUI impacts? We better know what is acceptable to the users first. Does everyone want the option of playing lefty? We're all ambidextrous then. Or do you sign up as a lefty and are then stuck with it? Which GUI needs to change? registration or game options or appearance options?
Are there Pro Shop impacts? Does WGT sell lefty avatars separately? When you buy an avatar do you specify left/right?
How about Lefty only tournaments? Should that be accommodated in the tournaments features?
I think I've made my point. There's going to be much more work in the entire game than just flipping the avatar pictures. That's just the tip of the iceberg IMO.
Certainly a more detailed feature definition, a feature specification would be needed before any high level estimate could be given with any degree of certainty. In addiiton, without knowing AS3, or whether the original designer is even still around (we both know maintaining/enhancing someone else's stuff is a PITA) I'd be stupid to say it was a simple change.courteneyfish

You're correct that there need to be left-handed clubs. You're also correct in saying that definitions need to be made. Those are work items, yes, but they aren't complicated. If WGT does not want to make any investment, that's rightly their decision. Their response was not that they don't want to make additional investment, it was that the technical implementation was difficult. It is not.
Screen real estate might be a problem in certain instances, just as the positioning near severe features such as bunkers can be a problem in certain instances. However, you can take any shot you have coming up and position to hit backwards and see that the real estate doesn't present a problem for the majority of the shots. I do it all the time when characterizing clubs and lies and so forth. Hit back and forth until my shots are used up.
I'm a righty. It's no skin off my nose if leftys aren't implemented. Nor am I addressing marketing issues. I'm merely presenting facts regarding technical implementation. I assure you it's not BS, It's entirely everyone else's prerogative to decide if that assurance has any validity.
Edit:
Courtney, it is simple. There are no difficulties that they haven't already solved for right-handed players (whether cleanly or not).

- I am in agreement with Andyson on this one. The entire program would have to be reprogrammed IMO to "mirror" the existing code. A ding left or right for example would have to be recoded to accomodate the leftie, all taking time, in particular when every aspect of the game needs to be done. Is it possible, yes but at a a significant cost of the programmers time with no return for WGT on this investment. And any significant change usually means a lot of new problems as a result would surface.
After all, by putting a jets engine in reverse thrust, will this make the jet fly backwards?
I don't see why the ding would need to reverse effect. A righty's hook is a lefty's slice. However, it's merely a matter of sign.bubbadork

Regardless, I have only attempted to make a number of rational statements regarding the implementation of the game. Certainly, anyone would introduce bugs, WGT maybe more than most.
If I had been responsible for the game, the meter would work and there would be left-handed players and shot-shaping. It's entirely possible that, at this point, such things would not be fiscally sound.
There are no personalities involved, for me, because I hold each of the people making counter-arguments in the highest regard. Andyson, for instance, could do the graphics before breakfast with his eyes closed.TurkishTerror

No, mirror images won't work. That's why my lefty isn't a mirror image. I actually turned him around by aiming backward, then replacing the club with a left handed club because the face, rather than the back, was showing.
Your lefty is hitting cross handed! LMAO! Compare your lefty's hands and location of the glove to a real Lefty, Phil Mickelson.
Your method won't work without a ton of work. WGT has no left handed swing animation from that single setup position. You're method requires regenerating/recreating the swing animations for all 150+ avatars. Mirroring will work with additional artist work on logo avatars and possibly some country avatars.
BTW, there are a significant number of swing animations. It appears each avatar has 36 separate swing animations. Each of the 6 shot types has a different swing and there are 5 forward angles* and one reverse view of the 6 shot types. 36 swing animations X 150 different avatars = 5400 swing animations to be mirrored or recreated.
I know, i know, simple. Write some kind of script to access each animation, pass it to the the existing tool, tell the tool to mirror the animation, rename it and save it in a different directory. That's assuming their development environment supports that. IDK
*turn on the avatar angle option to see the different angles.
I recorded an avatar swing then mirrored the recording to show a lefty avatar. Something for the left handed players to drool over.....andyson
6,415 PostsMon, Mar 11 2013 6:55 PM
Naturally the whole screen is mirrored, not merely the avatar. One think I noted is the avatar shadow in the normal scene falls to the right. With a left avatar the shadow would need to also fall to the right (behind the lefty avatar). Just another complication for the WGT programmers to deal with. If it is a lefty playing, a different shadow needs to be used and it needs to be placed correctly.
Reckon Icon's a lefty irl...if I remember right he seemed to endorse a lefty avatar a few months back. Never happen though.9,041 Posts Mon, Mar 11 2013 7:36 PM

Move the tee markers or move the tee boxes.
andyson 6,415 Posts | Tue, Nov 10 2009 8:45 AM |
- Much has been posted about moving the pins. After searching I've found very little has been said about moving the tees. A few product suggestions that would Improve the realism of WGT golf.
- Move the ball placement between the tee markers left or right, approximately the same distance to the pin but a different angle.
-Move the tee markers forward and back in the tee box area, changing the distance to the hole +/- 10 yards or so.
-Mix the tee boxes. Take the blue tees as an example. In tournaments, Move a couple of blue tee markers to the black tee box area on BP. Move a couple more blue tee markers to the white tee box areas. Same could be done on the same holes for the white markers (moving back or up) or even have the white and blue tee markers in the white tee box area.
This would be much appreciated on the par 3s (we all can recite those distances from memory by now) and would also make a difference playing some of the dogleg par 4s and 5s. BP#s 2, 4 and 6 come to mind immediately.
Personally I feel this would be a major enhancement to the realism of this game.

I've found a counter culture here on good ol' Dub-G-T
It seems there's much more to this game than most folks would suspect
Which I'll attempt to translate from a poet's dialect
My 1st encounter "Yancy" really kinda set the tone
As "whackjobs" it's quite nice to know that you are not alone
Next up, the "squirrelly" nature of my meter made me post
which drew a chap named "renni" out ( with those I too would boast !)
"hpurey" and "SargeDoodles" fueled a most "Enquiring" mind
with "MioKontic" screen shots and "Rossetti" phones I find
that further research indicates "StrangeMagic" working here
which "andyson" then documents... true genius! Am I clear ?
But I've just scratched the surface, there's more research I must do
and hey folks did I mention that they play golf on here too?andyson

- LMAO. and a brilliant festive Enquirer edition.
My favorite is the driving range - I used to practice a lot at a course in Hong Kong - Discovery Bay Golf Club, where you would hit floating balls into a lake. The balls were then scooped up by an old guy in a tinnie (aluminum boat).
You would keep hitting with him rowing around - hit the boat and a horrendous sound rang out - followed by an irate staff member swearing in Cantonese (my Cantonese was limited to expletives).
And before the health and safety advocates start complaining, he did wear a hard wide brimmed hat - for HK that was quite progressive considering the builders playing Tarzan on bamboo scaffold 100 floors up.
hahaha, Lizzy Rozetti silly putting - nobody rolls like lizzy - that edition is def worth framingduffer19

St. Andrews from Google Earth
andyson 6,415 Posts | Mon, Mar 8 2010 9:17 AM |
- I was wondering how the front 9 holes of St. Andrews all linked together and in which direction they all faced. Click on this link for a satellite view of St. Andrews taken from Google Earth or click on the image below to have a bigger image.
Firefox and IE browsers allow you to zoom in on the picture by clicking on it.
Blue numbers are the tee boxes, yellow numbers are the greens.
The tee box for hole #1 is in the lower right corner
Nice work Andyson, now we can really get an idea of the wind direction on this course and see how in corresponds from hole to hole. Hole 2 thru 7 should have close to the same wind direction. My guess is the prevailing winds should be right to left on these holes as the ocean appears to be right of the pic.duffer66

duff
One of the complaints that I have about WGT is the lack of consistent wind direction on a course. This view shows you which holes should have the same wind and it doesn't work that way on the game. Kiawah is similar with16 of the 18 holes running parallel to the beach but the wind being in your face on one and behind you on the next hole, even though they run in the same direction.TarheelsRule
5,227 PostsMon, Mar 8 2010 12:03 PM
Thanks duffer! With the wind being so much a part of links golf, especially at St. Andrews, and the WGT goal to be the most realistic golf simulation ever created, it seems logical that realistic playing conditions have to be part of it.andyson

So lets add a Virtual Wind Model to the mix MisterWGT and give those competitors another nut to crack!!TallAcePaul
1,455 PostsTue, Mar 9 2010 4:02 AM
This could work by having a random wind setting on "some" days. It does not have to be every day but it would add that extra element. This does not mean target the top players but make it random, that means that anyone can be lucky or unlucky on the day.
I agree with your above statement as well. Consistency comes to mind. You can have a 20 mph wind right to left and it really matters on one hole and then the next hole you aim wide of the hole to accommodate the wind and when the ball is in the air it doesn't move...This is something that bothers me, especially since I pay attention to detail so much. Any thoughts???Stellarscience
65 PostsTue, Mar 9 2010 4:18 AM
That's good stuff right there. It appears that if the wind was blowing directly off of the beach that you would have a wind advantage on the Front 9 and a deficit coming back with it being in your face. However, little angle variance would be suffice.TheLighterDark

Here is why flat putts come up short
andyson 6,415 Posts | Fri, Sep 17 2010 5:37 PM |
- Say you have a 4.0 ft putt that shows 0 slope (flat) on Tournament Speed greens. You hit it with 3.5ft of power and it comes up just short! Costs you a birdie!
The next short putt you decide to give it more power but it lips out on you! Another birdie gone! Damnit!
Next short putt has a sharp break and now you're almost afraid to hit it. You think, I'll hit it harder and take the break out. No, I'll hit it easier and die it in the side of the cup. Short putts on really fast greens can get into your head! You decide to split the difference, miss the ding, and the putt slides by the low side of the cup. You break your mouse.
Sound familiar??
Confidence on short putts is everything. The key is not to miss that first short putt in a round. That means don't miss any.
There's a short putt on the 2nd at Kiawah, to the right of the flag where its a straight putt, that I've come up short on a couple of times. Its 4 to 5 ft and it says 0 slope.
It lies, its really up .44 inches, nearly half an inch, and only because the slope indicator does whole inches and not tenths of an inch. And .5 inches is .5 ft of power on your putter.
Here's a look at that putt on #2 at Kiawah in the panels below. Click on the image for a bigger view.
Panel 1: From the ball to 3.2 ft from the ball the little green triangle is pointing down and slope says 0 in.
Panel 2: I move the aimer just 1 pixel towards the hole and the green triangle flips, it now points up, but still says the slope is 0 inches. This is where the "hidden upslope" begins.
Panel 3: At the hole, says 4 ft and 0 slope. Green triangle is pointing up.
Panel 4: I keep dragging the aimer past the hole, at 5.1 ft I finally get told there's a 1 inch upslope!
Panel 5: I keep dragging the aimer and at 7.2 ft I get told its now a 2 inch upslope!
Below is a side view of the putt that illustrates what's going on with the slope.
That little rise of .44 inches, starting 10 inches in front of the cup, when the ball is rolling its slowest, is a killer.
So, to make more short putts drag the aimer past the pin and look for an upslope. Take these hidden upslopes into consideration when you're facing a short putt on really fast greens and stop leaving them short!
P.S. This also works to find hidden downslopes, which can cause the ball to roll too fast and cause lip outs or long comeback putts.
That really is some great advice, although I only get to "Very Fast" Greens (not ready for RG's, etc. yet) I've been leaving 3 or 4 birdies and par saves per 18 holes short, just like you mentioned...dead straight putts within 8ft...MBaggese

18 foot putt, v.fast greens and the game says flat, but has a down arrow. Check the green, and it actually goes further downhill than that. I change my putt accordingly, and it goes straight into the hole!

If only I could putt sttraight!...lol, but yes, I did find 2 putts on SA that it kept me from coming up short.
Also, I fould one hole that it kept me from running too far past the hole, notice it was slightly dropping off behind the hole, although the grid was still Blue...i/e about a foot in front of the hole was 8 inches above, hole was 7 inches above and about a foot behind was 6 inches above...makes a lot of diference on the very fast greens for sure.
Again...good info.VanHalenLover

Good info andyson, and the quote above would be a GREAT thing for WGT to develop further, and allow for more accurate readings, even if only on the putts that are <5 feet or so.
I appreciate the tip, Andyson. I have no such problems on the VERY FAST greens though (besides the occasional hand cramp). It is only on TOURNAMENT speed greens.SLinSD
12 PostsThu, Sep 30 2010 10:00 AM
A slight, unseen, incline at the cup is much more dangerous on Tournament speed greens since we're hitting the putts much softer. An unseen .4 inch upslope is equivalent to .4 ft of putter power.andyson
6,415 PostsThu, Sep 30 2010 10:42 AM
If you hit a 3ft putt on tournament greens with 75% power that's 2.25 ft of power when in reality, with the unseen slope, you would have needed 3.4 x .75 or 2.6 ft of power.
OK good info. Here's another problem ive come up against. I know that when your putting that blue means up hill and red means down hill but what does it mean if you have a 20ft putt up hill and it has a 8ft incline, which u would add 8ft to the 20ft making it 28 ft, but the line shows a half blue line from the putter and the changes to light blue the othr half. My question is do u add more footage than the 8 ft. and if so how much.???Fubar057

- Same thing with a down hill putt , if the line goes from red to pink , do u subtract more footage than what it calls for. ???
Thankyou Andy! "Sound familiar?" LOL! I've worked tirelessly on my putting but it does throw me when a putt (before now) mysteriously pulled up or went long. I'd make adjustments thinking the speed of the greens were different. Now I have another tool in the arsenal!Ecka65

There are little points like this all over that can help you shave a stroke or strokes. On short chips and pitches, slide the cursor towards yourself to find out how much of that last yard you really need to cross. I have hit chips that slid past the hole, only to find that the distance had barely made 10y, meaning it was more like 9y. Also, on putts of longer than 6', check the path of the putt for unseen dips or rises. I have found putts that said they were flat, but in fact they dipped an inch then rose an inch before the hole. That putt will play short without that info.JaLaBar

WGT, listen to the Veteran players of this game, not the share holders who could quite honestly careless about how this game operates.
